چکیده

Abstract Sorghum halepense is a synanthropic tall grass distributed worldwide from tropical to temperate zones, and it often considered an invasive alien. It perennial, rhizomatous plant that tends form dense stands derived vegetative sexual propagation. Despite roadside communities dominated by are very common in southern Europe, their phytosociological aspects scarcely studied. In this work, we present the results of vegetation survey peninsular Italy, carried out means method. total, 73 relevés Liguria, Tuscany, Latium, Campania, Basilicata, Apulia. We statistically compared our those Balkans classified Cynodonto-Sorghetum halepensis , association agricultural annual weed class Stellarietea mediae s.l. used past as reference for Italian S. -dominated communities. Our show different Cynodonto–Sorghetum communities, since latter rich species, while former perennial species. From syntaxonomic point view, better Artemisietea vulgaris . describe new (sub-)ruderal Potentillo reptantis–Sorghetum including meso-hygrophilous variant with Urtica dioica Elymus repens have evidence Potentillo–Sorghetum occurs Kosovo Slovenia, but its distribution possibly wider due conspicuous presence cosmopolitan species characterizing association. work provides baseline knowledge alien-dominated community can invade habitats high conservation value.

ELEMENT STEWARDSHIP ABSTRACT for Sorghum halepense

Element Stewardship Abstracts (ESAs) are prepared to provide The Nature Conservancy's Stewardship staff and other land managers with current management-related information on those species and communities that are most important to protect, or most important to control. The abstracts organize and summarize data from numerous sources including literature and researchers and managers actively wor...

Glyphosate resistance in perennial Sorghum halepense (Johnsongrass), endowed by reduced glyphosate translocation and leaf uptake.

BACKGROUND In a large cropping area of northern Argentina, Sorghum halepense (Johnsongrass) has evolved towards glyphosate resistance. This study aimed to determine the molecular and biochemical basis conferring glyphosate resistance in this species. Experiments were conducted to assess target EPSPS gene sequences and (14)C-glyphosate leaf absorption and translocation to meristematic tissues. ...

Control of Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense) in tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) stands

Johnsongrass is a nonnative invasive species introduced as a forage crop from the Mediterranean region (Miller and Miller 1999). This perennial species has become naturalized and is found in 47 of the 50 United States (Alaska, Minnesota, and Maine being the exceptions) (USDA 2004). Johnsongrass has become problematic along roadsides in Kentucky due to its aggressive and prolific nature and rapi...

Multi-Phase US Spread and Habitat Switching of a Post-Columbian Invasive, Sorghum halepense

Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense) is a striking example of a post-Columbian founder event. This natural experiment within ecological time-scales provides a unique opportunity for understanding patterns of continent-wide genetic diversity following range expansion. Microsatellite markers were used for population genetic analyses including leaf-optimized Neighbor-Joining tree, pairwise FST, mismat...
